Pelican’s Director of Operations, Alicia Menefee, has been awarded the 2019 Special Preservation Award by the Harford County Historic Preservation Commission for her advocacy work as leader of the Bulle Rock Historical Society, a club sponsored by the Bulle Rock Homeowners Association in Havre de Grace, MD. The biennial awards recognize significant contributions in the field of historic preservation made by individuals, organizations, community groups, and local governments within Harford County.
Mrs. Menefee formed the historical society in order to preserve and share the natural and cultural history of Bulle Rock, teaching residents about the families who lived in the community’s two historic estates, Blenheim and Mount Pleasant. Under Mrs. Menefee’s direction, community leaders and volunteers came together to care for Blenheim’s cemetery through a series of community cleanup events, a cemetery preservation workshop, and a remembrance ceremony.
According to Mrs. Menefee, the highlight of the experience was creating opportunities for residents to see that homeowners associations can be a platform that empowers people to serve their community for the greater good. Pelican would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our team member for living our mission of “challenging the status quo.”
